Mad Dash…

July 27, 2011

I realized a few days ago that school is right around the corner – and I was just NOT ready. SO much to do for the business. New Senior website – order packaging – put together some marketing promos – finish ordering studio samples – etc… YIPES!

I was just relaxing, enjoying editing my Europe photos, and I will continue to do so, bUT I’m now pretty much in full swing, preparing for the new school year.

So I’m sorry I’ve been MIA the past few days.

Here’s a new image of the Coliseum. I hope you enjoy it!

This shot got me booted…

From the Sistine Chapel. Yes, THE Sistine Chapel… booted.

When we first walked in to the Chapel, I started taking photos. Our tour guide had not mentioned to us that we were not allowed to take photos. Then I heard the guards yelling ” NO PHOTOS – NO PHOTOS”
So, I put my camera around my neck. And yes… the temptation was TOO great for me. This ceiling image of God and Adam is my most favorite painting in the world!!!!  I have ALWAYS profoundly loved this image.  And then there is the image below of God creating the SUN and the moon. Only the “Moon” is sort of a booty shot of an angel because Michelangelo was not too happy with the current Pope at that time! He was so feisty!
So now you know how “mooning someone” began. I just could not resist. I ended up discreetly pointing my camera to the ceiling and then I “clicked.” Here is the un-cropped version.

(I did not look through the viewfinder at all, hence… the head. .) I also had a lookout person helping me a bit…. JILL SHAVER. Maybe that’s Jill’s head? Who knows. Anyway, just as I clicked, I guess the guard had just walked right beside me. He must have heard my camera click.

Well, the next thing I know, I have a very short and loud Italian guard standing right in front of my face – staring at me saying, “Madam, follow me please… Madam… FOLLOW ME” Yes… he was loud. Yes… most people around me were looking. Yes… I was feeling like a kid… BUSTED! And yes… IN the Sistine Chapel of all places. It was definitely, as my kids would say, an ” I Love Lucy” moment for me.

I took a big gulp and started following him. I remember thinking, “Oh my gosh, where are they going to take me? Will they try to take my camera or will they just ask me to delete my images?
So, I WILL admit that as I began to follow him with these thoughts swirling in my head, and because he was in front of me maneuvering around a lot of people, I had my memory card out of my camera and replaced with a new memory card in less than 60 seconds flat!!! ( I’m a tiny bit proud of that – not sure that’s a good thing… but it’s the truth!) I did sorta wink at the Lord….

Well, the guard ended up escorting me to the exit. He also picked up a few other photo enthusiasts along the way. This did make me feel a LITTLE better. I was not alone.

The truth is, I think that is the only thing he has to do on his job. Shush visitors and kick out photo takers. Aside from that he would have to just stare at the Chapel all day long. So I figured I was job security for him in a way…right?

Anyway, I had NO idea where to go once I left the Chapel. Jill and I had been with a tour group and they were taking a different exit. I’d have no way of finding them So, I DID manage to sneak back in. But I did NOT take any more photos.

I did get this shot before getting booted! It is of The Apocalypse. Also, this version has been modified. Everyone was originally naked… a little trivia we learned on the tour.

Enjoy

  1. Haha, you sneaky little troublemaker! I love it! >; ) I can almost hear you saying, “Buwahahahahahaahaaaaa!!!!!” as you left the little Italian guard in the dust. So cool to see a real picture of it!

If it’s this beautiful in a photograph, it must be stunning in person! Although you got booted, thanks for taking these photos. It was worth it, you rebel!

And now you have a great story to tell your grandkids! I had my DSLR taken from me at a Miami Heat game. Ridiculous. Someone ratted me out because of my “professional” camera. I was sure to take the card out before I handed it over it to security. (I got a few good shots of Shaq!) We are sneaky!

AMAZING! What a cool experience… and I think you’re awesome for being such a rebel!! :)

Antica Carbonera… Venezia

July 19, 2011

I absolutely LOVED all of the small and narrow alleys throughout Venice! They were always so intriguing to me! Though I did not dine here, this lil’ restaurant, Antica Carbonera sort of called out my name!

Settling in…

July 19, 2011

I’ve been back home now for a few days and it feels wonderful. There REALLY is “no place like home!”

So I’m starting to run edits on more of my Europe Images. I’ll be posting them randomly – in no particular order. Just whatever I feel like editing, so check in often! I would love to continue to share my trip with you!

I hope you enjoy…
